Lakshmi Manchu's Speak

Lakshmi Manchu feels she is part of Indian Cinema at the right time. She talks about her Hindi debut and home productions is conversation to Sangeetha devi dundoo

A few hours before boarding her flight to the US to join her brother Vishnu Manchu and Viranica(the couple was blessed with twin girls in Friday), Lakshmi Manchi is a bundle of nerves as we catch up with her in her office in Jubilee Hills on ablamy morning.

2011 has been a memorable year. The year opened with her making adebut as an evil witch in Anaganaga O Dheerudu. The much-hyped Walt Disney production sank but Lakshmi walked away with appreciation.

Lakshmi is also working on her next next Telugu home production Oo Kodathara ulikki Padathara Starring Balakrishna and Manoj. She feels she is at the right place at the right time. "years ago, when Supriya(grandDaughter of Akkineni Nageshwara Rao) and Manjula (doctor of actor Krishna) wanted to act, fans went berserk. Thank God things have changed. The samepeople who protested against famous daughters entering the industry buy tickets to watch my film today," she asserts.

She was recently in Rajahmundry scouting locales and is over-whelmed by the love and affection of teh local population for her family. Her television talk shows, she feels, have made people connect better with her."people are scared to come up and talk to my dad, but they open up to me. I had no idea television was such a powerful medium," she says.

While working on Prematho Me Lakshmi, she realised who her real friends were. "Those who I thought were just a phone call away were the toughest to get on board. And those who I thought would turn down my interview requests immediately agreed," she says. But her new talk shoe series will have to wait. "I am producing a Telugu-Tamil bilingual in which I eill be acting," she informs. Before she signs off, she reflects, "I've realised I cannot be a people pleaser. If I want everyone to like me, there is something wrong with me. When in doubt, I am guided by the words of my acting coach Richard Lawson: 'Your art cannot go through other people's morality'."
