Tollywood heroes plot real life love stories in style

Hyderabad: They may come across as the angry young rebel in reel life, but in real life, Tollywood’s young macho stars prefer to toe the line when they fall in love.
Falling in love may have come easy to them, but these young men of Tollywood appear to find it harder to break the news of their love affairs to their families, preferring instead to take a more indirect approach—by first leaking it to the media, forcing a discussion at home, leading to a full disclosure. A family decision is then made and the happy couple exchange vows. This has become the most recent formula to hit Tollywood families.
And the formula, tried and true seems to have worked for all those who have followed it. Vishnu, Allu Arjun, Ram Charan and Mahesh Babu all used it.
Members of the film industry waited for it, they knew it was only a matter of time before Ram Charan and Upasana tied the knot. Ram Charan is Chiranjeevi’s son, while Upasana is the granddaughter of Apollo hospitals’ chairman C Pratap Reddy. “It is what one would call a love marriage. Ram Charan and Upasana have known each other for sometime,” Upasana’s mother Shobhana Kamineni told media.
Shobhana, however, hastened to add that her family and that of Chiranjeevi had not known each other before, but were brought together by the young couple. “In any case, he is a nice boy and the family is also nice,” Shobhana Kamineni said.
A couple of months ago when questioned by a member of the press as to when he was going to make this relationship official, Ram Charan quipped: “I will tell the media openly about my marriage and then tie the knot.” He decided not to tip his hand, before he had his parents on his side. Superstar Krishna’s son Mahesh Babu, who got married to former Miss India Namrata Shirodkar, took a while before marrying his lady love, mainly, it was rumoured because he needed the time to convince his parents.
Allu Arjun, who married Sneha Reddy faced a similar obstacle. Papa Allu Aravind was initially not amused but eventually gave in. “It was Arjun’s friends who brought up the idea, that Arjun and Sneha would make a good couple,” Allu Aravind had said openly. Obviously, Aravind did not want to make it sound like a love match, but did not want to lie either and state it was an arranged marriage.
Actor Vishnu faced one of most difficult times in his life when he had to convince his father to let him marry Veronica, niece of the late chief minister, Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. But given time, Vishnu wore his actor-father down and married her.
But not everyone is as successful in turning his parents around, and few, if any of the young stars rebel against their parents. One such young Tollywood star, who is known to be controlled by his overbearing mother, could not convince his parents about marrying the actress he fell in love with. He did not rebel, and remains unmarried.
